The Evolution

Posted by Joel Bixi on

Accuracy of time was a big issue (imagine walking to town square to check the sun dial, and suddenly it becomes over cast), so in the 15th century, with the invention of springs, innovators got to work to incorporate this new device into time pieces, namely big clocks that were kept moving while the spring was uncoiling, and although not accurate at the time, it is grandfather of the modern day watch. The problem with this mechanism was two-fold, firstly, how do you keep the spring coiled at all times, to have continuous movement, secondly, how do you control the movement of the coils to insure accuracy.
